New Delhi: Delhi’s Public Works Department Officials on Sunday said the (PWD) will soon revamp its main roads with a walkway (ROW) of 30 meters or more, following the directions of the city government. These roads include Flag Staff RoadSecretariat Road, Velodrome Road, Satyagraha MargPWD officials said Club Road and IG Stadium Slip Road among others.
“This exercise will be different from the routine maintenance exercise of major main roads. The exercise will focus on minor main roads, tributary roads to major roads, slip roads etc.
An amount of Rs 8.55 crore has also been set aside for strengthening such stretches, a PWD official said on condition of anonymity.
Under the strengthening exercise, the PWD will adopt a “tailored solution” approach, which means that the identified roads will undergo minor repair work and revitalization or restructuring depending on the need.
The PWD manages the roads wider than 60 feet in Delhi, while the smaller roads are managed by the municipal corporations. The PWD manages about 1,260 km of roads.
According to a PWD official, the decision has come after complaints were received about the poor condition of roads in various areas of the city.
“We keep on repairing and maintaining major main roads like Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Mathura Road, Vikas Marg, etc. among other roads. But recently, there were complaints that other roads, especially towards major main roads There were no roads leading to it. Good shape. Hence, this exercise has been ordered,” the official said.
