Pub co-owned by England seamer Stuart Broad destroyed by fire

According to a report in, a pub co-owned by England fast bowler Stuart Broad has caught fire in Upper Broughton, East Midlands.

The roof of the Tap and Run pub, owned by Broad and former teammate Harry Gurney, was destroyed in a massive fire on Saturday night and eight fire tenders were needed to douse the blaze.

“The Tap and Run in Upper Broughton is run by The Cats and Wickets Pub Company, which Broad launched in 2016 with his former England and Nottinghamshire teammate Harry Gurney. The pub’s roof and first floor were destroyed by fires. The fire was first reported at 3.22 am (GMT) on Saturday.

No one was reportedly hurt but the roof and the first floor were badly damaged. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue station manager Jonathan Wilson was quoted in the report as saying, “We were mobilized to contain the fire in this building and we had eight equipment and an aerial ladder platform.

“With prompt action by the crew, the fire in the building has been brought under control but the building has been badly damaged. We are working to mitigate this and will probably do so here for the next few hours.

“Nobody was believed to be inside the building and the fire had engulfed the building itself. Crews from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire are working together to deal with this.

“We are going to focus on extinguishing the fire – we have a structural engineer take a look at the building as well as an investigation to see if it is structurally safe.”

The fire broke out when Broad was playing the second Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.

Partners Broad and Gurney issued a statement saying they were ‘heartbroken’.

“We are absolutely devastated to report that a fire broke out at the pub during the night. We are bewildered to see our beautiful pub going up in flames. We regret that we will be unable to honor any bookings for the foreseeable future and are sorry for any inconvenience caused to the villagers by the fire. We will keep everyone updated on social media in the coming days and weeks.”
