New Delhi: Employees of various public sector banks have called for a nationwide strike to protest the government’s move to privatize two public sector banks.

* Tuljapurkar claimed that if PSBs are privatized, bank branches in rural and backward areas will be closed and implementation of all government schemes meant for socially and economically weaker sections will be affected.
* He said that bank employees ranging from Safai Karamcharis to senior officers in Scale 5 will observe a two-day strike and protests will be held across the country.
Banks urge unions to call off strike
* Country’s largest lender SBI in a tweet urged its staff members to reconsider their decision and refrain from participating in the strike.
* Canara Bank in a tweet said that the bank has called a meeting with the relevant stakeholders on December 14 to discuss various issues.
, UCO Bank The Kolkata-based lender said in a tweet, “Humble request to our bank unions to withdraw the nationwide bank strike in the interest of our esteemed customers.”
* The Central Bank of India asked the unions to advise their members to make maximum efforts to improve their performance for the overall development of the bank.
* Management of banks and Indian Banks’ Association are reaching out to UFBU to address their demands and concerns and arrive at an amicable solution, Bank of India said in a tweet assuring the employees.
