Yorkshire have teamed up with Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars to “lower the barriers to entry” in cricket. Club president Lord Patel called the partnership “an exciting step forward” towards building an inclusive cricket culture in Yorkshire.

“The work that Lahore Qalandars do both on and off the pitch is remarkable and can serve as a benchmark for clubs across the world – ours included – on how to foster talent at all levels in the game of cricket. Giving, promoting and supporting.” They said.

Darren Gough, the club’s interim managing director, said: “I am thrilled to welcome the extraordinarily talented Haris Rauf to our club. I am also excited by the opportunity to learn from the Motivational Players Development Program.

“I have spoken in the past about my passion for developing accessible avenues for cricket – for many people from backgrounds like me, cricket is not seen as an option, with the associated cost of admission and access to facilities. This partnership is an opportunity to take the blueprint that the Qalandars have developed to such success and work with them to define how it can be used to provide access to Yorkshire’s potential players. How can it be done for?

The joint venture will allow both clubs to learn from each other, with Yorkshire particularly keen to emulate its successes with the Qalandars’ Players Development Program (PDP) and nurturing local talent.

Among the players to benefit from the PDP is international pacer Haris Rauf, who went on trial in 2017 and is now a mainstay of both the Qalandars and Pakistan T20 sides. As part of the partnership, the 28-year-old will join Yorkshire as an overseas signing during the 2022 season on a player exchange programme. Young Yorkshire all-rounder Harry Brooke was picked by the PSL franchise in the recent player draft.
