Para athlete Sanjeev Kumar said that the government talks big but does nothing for the players who are really bringing laurels to the state and the country.

National and International Paralympic players of Punjab are preparing to stage a sit-in in front of the official residence of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh due to non-availability of government jobs. During this time they will also return their awards. The players will strike on Tuesday, just a day before the start of the Tokyo Olympics on August 25.

The players told that on June 4, when they staged a sit-in in front of the CM’s official residence, the CM talked through the VC, in the next cabinet meeting, the Sports Minister to give jobs to the para players who brought laurels to the country and the state. Instructions were given to bring a new sports policy. Apart from this, he had apologized for the atrocities committed by the police. But in the cabinet meeting held on August 16, the Sports Minister and Sports Director did not present any sports policy for the job of para players. Apart from this, no decision was taken on the list in which 14 players were named for the job.

In this regard, OSD Sandeep Singh Brar said that he had sent a proposal to the Chief Secretary (CS) in this regard, which he ignored saying that there is no money in the government treasury to give jobs to the players.

Then spilled player’s pain
Para athlete Sanjeev Kumar said that on one hand the Punjab government talks about providing door-to-door employment and on the other hand, when it comes to our jobs, the government talks about the treasury. We are forced to hit the streets. The government did not delay in giving jobs to the sons of its MLAs or the father of Tiktok star Gurnoor and the treasury became empty as soon as it was our turn. He said that on the lines of Haryana and Rajasthan government, the Punjab government should make a tradition of giving equal respect to the players by changing the sports policy to give jobs.
