Situation worse in second COVID wave

Knowing that this year the situation is even more worrying than the first wave of corona virus. Earlier, the drying time of children’s eyes was 6 hours, but after the second wave, it has come down to two and a half to three hours. The risk of computer vision syndrome in children and adolescents in the second wave has increased 2 to 3 times.

The results of a report prepared by the Department of Ophthalmology at GSVM Medical College show that online learning leads to eye fatigue. Along with online studies, playing games on mobile is also becoming a problem for children.

According to the report, the number of children between the ages of 2 and 15 who require high-powered glasses has increased due to mobile games. It is natural for their eyes to be watery and itchy. Blurred vision accompanied by irritation during studies is not a good sign. After testing, it was found that around 200 children and adolescents had blurred vision which is worrisome according to doctors.

Symptoms caused by prolonged screentime

According to experts, digital eye strain is also called computer vision syndrome because mobile is also a device like a computer. Long-term use of computers, tablets, e-readers and smartphones can lead to increased dryness in young eyes. As per the initial symptoms, children complain of confusion and frequent blurring due to eye strain. This is followed by headache, dryness in the eyes, frequent watering, pain in the neck, back and shoulders. Every day children are coming in contact with electronic gadgets.

To avoid these problems, use anti-glare glasses on computer screens, keep the screen 20 degrees below eye level. Give your eyes a rest for 15 minutes after every 2 hours. Take a break of 20 seconds after every 20 minutes. Include dry fruits, flaxseed, soybean, broccoli, green vegetables, fruits and fish in the diet of children. These measures will keep the negative effects under control and protect the eyes of the youth.
