A professor has been arrested for making derogatory remarks against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in an online class. Many tribal organizations have been campaigning against the arrested Nirmal Bera for a long time. A complaint was lodged against him by a college teacher with the police. After that the principal of Sabang Sajnikanta College suspended him.
Nirmal Babu had reportedly made derogatory remarks against scheduled castes and tribes during an online class last October. After this a teacher lodged a complaint against him in the police station. Meanwhile, an organization of tribals started gheraoing the college demanding the arrest of the accused professor.
On December 16, the principal of the college suspended the professor. The police finally arrested him on Monday and produced him in the court. The judge sent him on remand for one day. He will have to appear in court again on Tuesday.
