The Indian team is playing the second Test at Lord’s, in which the game was balanced on the third day.

Report till 3 Days Lunch (IANS):

Joe Root (89 not out) and Jonny Bairstow (51 not out) hardly put a leg wrong on the morning of the third day of the second Test at Lord’s as England trailed by 148 runs at 216/3 at lunch on Saturday.

Resuming at 119/3, England added 97 runs to their score without losing a wicket. Captain Root made the 51st half-century in 82 balls with the help of the seventh four. He was in control of his game, taking a single and running the ball between third man and backward point.

Bairstow, on the other hand, completed his 28th half-century with some of the best drives in Test cricket. It was also his first fifty in 20 innings since the second Ashes Test at Lord’s in August 2019.

The Indian bowlers worked hard but could not make the most of the conditions due to lack of consistent line and length.

Jasprit Bumrah had trouble with Bairstow on a few occasions, but the right-hander put on a solid 108-run partnership with Root.

With seven overs left for the second new ball, India will be hoping to break into England’s batting line-up.

Brief scores: India 364 in 126.1 overs vs England 216/3 in 73 overs (Joe Root scored 89 off 171, Jonny Bairstow scored 51 in 91; Mohammed Siraj 2/49, Mohammed Shami 1/60).
