A small plane crashed on Monday in a residential area of ​​a California city, killing at least two people and burning two homes and several vehicles on fire.

Aerial footage showed firefighters hammering down the charred remains of homes in the San Diego suburb of Santi.

A burnt delivery truck was also seen at the corner of a nearby street.

Fox 5 San Diego reported that the plane was a twin-engine Cessna 340, a six-seat aircraft that had departed Yuma, Arizona an hour earlier.

There was no trace of the remains of the plane from aerial footage.

Fire Officer Justin Matsushita said at least two people died in the incident.

“This is a very brutal scene for our people and we are trying to deal with it,” he told reporters.

Neighbors talked about the sound of the plane falling and then crashing as a loud “bounce”.

Many of them told of how they had run towards burning buildings, where they helped the burnt people out.

A woman said she had seen the body of the delivery driver.

The official account of the city of Santi said that two people were injured.

@CityofSantee tweeted, “At around 12:00 PM today, a small twin-engine plane crashed into two residential homes in Santi.

“A delivery truck and a fire hydrant were also hit. It is unknown at this time how many people were on board the plane.

“We currently know of two burn victims and possible deaths.”

Nearby Santana High School tweeted that all its students were safe.
