Presidential election: Yashwant Sinha to file nomination on June 27

Polling will be held on July 18 and counting of votes will take place on July 21.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha will file his nomination on June 27 at 11:30 am.

Former Union Minister Shri Sinha has been elected as the unanimous candidate from United Opposition for the upcoming Presidential Elections to be held on 18th July, 2022.

“We are going to file nominations for the presidential election on June 27 at 11.30 am,” Mr Pawar told the opposition meeting.

Meanwhile, BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is likely to file her nomination on June 25.

The last date for filing nominations for the Presidential election is June 29, voting will be held on July 18 and counting of votes will take place on July 21.

Expressing gratitude to West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Mr Sinha said, it is time to move away from the party for a larger national cause and work for greater opposition unity.

“I am grateful to Mamta ji for giving me respect and prestige in TMC. Now a time has come when for a bigger national cause I should leave the party to work for greater opposition unity. I am sure that She accepts this. Kadam,” he tweeted.

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee said he was honored that Yashwant Sinha has been nominated by the unified opposition.

“We are honored that Yashwant Sinha has been nominated by the unified opposition, he was associated with TMC for a long time. We need to put aside our differences. We have to find someone who will be the custodian of the Indian Constitution. will work.” Abhishek Banerjee said.

In his long and distinguished career in public life, Shri Sinha has served the nation in various capacities as an able administrator, efficient parliamentarian and acclaimed Union Minister of Finance and External Affairs.

He is uniquely qualified to uphold the secular and democratic character of the Republic of India and its constitutional values, the press release said.
