Presidential election: KTR compares Draupadi to ‘Bhishma’, supports Yashwant Sinha, criticizes ‘dictatorial’ BJP

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Monday announced his party’s support for Yashwant Sinha’s candidature in the upcoming presidential elections, with Draupadi Murmu of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party being seen as the overwhelming favourite.

KTR was accompanied by TRS MPs Nama Nageswara Rao and Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, while Sinha filed his nomination.

Later speaking to the media in Delhi, KTR said, “There are many reasons to support Yashwant Sinha. BJP led central government is ruling with dictatorial policies. Despite not having a majority, the BJP came to power in eight states by adopting undemocratic methods. Every party that believes in democracy should oppose it. We rejected the BJP presidential candidate and supported the opposition-backed candidate. We have no personal agenda in this and we are inviting Yashwant Sinha to Hyderabad. If possible, we will ask other opposition parties to support him.

The presidential election to elect Ram Nath Kovind’s successor will be held on July 18 and the result will be out on July 21. Kovind’s term ends on July 24.

Speaking about Murmu’s candidature, KTR said, “Bhishma was defeated because he was on the side of Kauravas in the Mahabharata. Tokenism as Draupadi Murmu is not right for the tribals. She was a minister when 13 tribals were killed in a steel plant agitation in Odisha’s Kalinganagar in 2006. He has not condemned it.

He alleged that the Center did not approve a unanimous resolution sent by the state assembly to the central government four years ago, requesting to increase the reservation for tribals in Telangana in line with the increased population, and that it was part of BJP’s politics. was a clear indicator. Name of tribes.

“Our MPs protested in Parliament for reservation. The tribal university as promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 has been a non-starter. Seven mandals of Khammam district where tribal population is high were merged with Andhra Pradesh and forced to move, which is unjust,” Rao said.
