Presidential election: Draupadi Murmu to file papers today; Center gives ‘Z’ security to Yashwant Sinha

The Union Home Ministry has provided Z category security to the opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. According to the order issued on Thursday, adequate number of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been deployed.

The ‘Z’ category is the security detail of 55 personnel including 4-6 NSG commandos and police personnel.

Meanwhile, NDA’s presidential candidate, Draupadi Murmu is all set to file her nomination papers on Friday for the elections to be held on July 18 this year.

The Center on Wednesday provided Z+ security of CRPF commandos to Murmu. Armed squad took over the security of 64-year-old Murmu in the early hours of Wednesday.

Terming it as a fight between two ideologies, opposition presidential candidate and former Union minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday said leaders of the other ideology are bent on throttling the Constitution and “making fun of people’s mandate in elections”.

Upon being elected, he said, “I will not allow the independence and integrity of democratic institutions to be weaponized against political opponents, as is the case now.”

“The on-going attacks on the federal structure of the Constitution, whereby the Government is attempting to rob the State Governments of their legitimate rights and powers, will be considered completely unacceptable. Will also do it to check the dangerous power which is killing the soul of Indian democracy and making fun of people’s mandate in elections,” Sinha told media persons here.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu for her “understanding of the problems on the ground” and termed her vision for India’s development as “extraordinary”.

The Prime Minister made the remarks after meeting Murmu in New Delhi. After the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met the NDA’s presidential candidate.

Murmu will also meet several Union ministers and veteran leaders before filing his nomination for the post of President on Friday.
