Presidential Election 2022: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday announced that he will support National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Draupadi Murmu for the 2022 presidential election.

The presidential election will be held on July 18, 2022, with the opposition pitting former Union minister Yashwant Sinha as its common candidate against Murmu.

Odisha’s tribal leader and former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu has already filed her nomination and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has submitted her nomination to the Returning Officer PC Modi.

He was accompanied by several Union ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and BJP President JP Nadda.

Several chief ministers of BJP-ruled states including Yogi Adityanath, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Manohar Lal Khattar, Jai Ram Thakur, Pushkar Singh Dhami and some pro-NDA parties like YSRCP, BJD and AIADMK were also present during their filing of nominations. ,

While Mayawati-led BSP, Odisha’s ruling BJP and Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Congress backed her candidature, Murmu enjoys the support of around 55 per cent of the electoral college.

After Murmu filed his nomination, BJP President JP Nadda had called Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha, its Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda to support his candidature.
