An equitable and healthy workspace on a film set is something a lot of women actors and crew members have often championed. Lack of nutritious food, sanitation and impartial opportunities irrespective of genders have remained an ongoing topic of conversation for a while now. And to overcome the same, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Pari’ producer Prerna Arora has come up with an initiative about creating a culture of safety, inclusivity and respect for every individual on a film set, regardless of gender or role.
News18 Showsha has exclusively learnt that she has created a childcare space for nursing mothers and working women. On the sets of Prerna’s upcoming films – Dunk: Once Bitten Twice Shy and Hero Heeroine – there’s crèche made available for infants and children of crew members and even for single mothers who don’t have child care support at home to resort to.
According to Prerna, this dedicated child care space makes for an innovative addition to the sets as it allows female crew members who are mothers to bring their children, thus bridging the gap between their work and family life and reducing their financial strain. By providing a nurturing environment where mothers can fulfil their professional duties without sacrificing their responsibilities at home, she aims to set a new standard for inclusivity and support in the industry.
Speaking to us, she says, “Women shouldn’t have to choose between their careers and their safety, or between being a mother and a professional. It’s time to shatter the assumptions that hold us back and create a workplace where every woman feels safe, supported and empowered to pursue her dreams.” She adds, “By creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive, we’re not just making movies—we’re shaping a better future for all.”
