  • Plan to start construction work on 10 hectares of land in Tatanagar, Jharkhand
  • Railway workers will get new flats, common people also hope to get houses cheaper than the market price

New Delhi. If the plan of the Railways takes a dead form, then in the coming times, thousands of hectares of vacant land will be populated with multi-storey buildings, residential colonies and commercial complexes, from which the railway is preparing to earn crores. This work will be done on PPP model i.e. Railways will be able to earn billions of rupees in lieu of its land without investing anything.

In this sequence, instead of 100 years old dilapidated railway colonies, flats with better facilities will be given to the employees. Railways will benefit lakhs of railway workers who are currently forced to live in dilapidated railway quarters. It is believed that there is illegal encroachment on thousands of hectares of railway land, which the railways will gradually get rid of according to its use and use it for commercial use.

Real estate developers on leased land of railways will also give flats to common people at a cheaper price than the market price. With this, the Railways will develop its resources by making revenue. Under the scheme, Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has started the work of redevelopment of railway colonies at three places including Guwahati, Hyderabad.

RLDA vice-president Ved Prakash Dudeja told the media that construction work would start in the new year at 84 sites across the country. In this, 600 hectares of land will be given on lease. Quarter-flats will be made for 25,000 railway staff. Railway land will be given on lease for 99 years by bidding.

Railway land is being re-evaluated in the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand etc. where rapid survey is going on for construction of multi-storey buildings, colonies, commercial complexes. A decision has been taken on the plan to lease seven hectares of land near Prayagraj Jhansi railway station in Uttar Pradesh. Here multi-storey buildings and commercial complexes will be built.

In place of dilapidated railway colonies in Gokharpur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Moradabad, Jhansi, Agra etc., multi-storey flat-quarters will be built. Railway staff quarters, offices, health care centers etc. will be built in Izzatnagar of Bareilly along with leasing out rail land. Construction work will be done on 10 hectares of land at TTE Rest House in Patna, Bihar and Tatanagar in Jharkhand.
