The government’s Agneepath scheme for the recruitment of Armed Forces is being opposed across the country. Demonstrations have turned violent in states like UP, Bihar, Telangana. Here protesters are setting railway stations, trains and government properties on fire. Pictures of stone pelting on police are also coming out from many places.

Opposition parties are also attacking the government regarding this scheme. They are demanding the government to withdraw this scheme like agricultural laws. At the same time, the central government has announced to give preference to Agniveers in their ministries. On the other hand, the state governments in the BJP-ruled states have also promised to give reservation to the Agniveers in the jobs coming out in the state departments.

10% reservation for Agniveers in CRPF and Assam Rifles
The Union Home Ministry has announced to give 10% reservation to Agniveers in CRPF and Assam Rifles on retirement after serving 4 years in Arm Forces. Along with this, it has been decided to give 3 years relaxation in the age of firefighters in CRPF and Assam Rifles. It was informed on Twitter by the Ministry of Home Affairs that for the first batch of Agniveers, age relaxation of 5 years will be given.

Announcement of 10% reservation for Agniveers in Defense Ministry
Defense Ministry Rajnath Singh has decided to give 10% reservation to Agniveers in the departments of Defense Ministry. These reservations will be given to those Agniveers who will be eligible for the job.
The Civil Aviation Ministry said that it is considering to give employment to the firefighters in the departments.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri said that in the Ministries of Housing and Petroleum, we are also planning to give employment to Agniveers.

Agniveers will get preference even in BJP ruled states

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced to give preference to Agniveers in police recruitment.
  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Thursday that Agniveers would be given jobs in police and disaster management departments.
  • UP CM Yogi Adityanath tweeted that after retiring from the Armed Forces after four years, Agniveers would be given preference in the Police Department.
  • Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said that the government has decided to give priority to Agniveers in police department recruitment.
  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced priority to Agniveers in the Assam Arogya Nidhi initiative.
  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that Agniveers who have completed their service under the Agneepath scheme will get preference in government jobs in the state.
  • Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu said that Agniveers will get priority in the subsidy schemes of the police and the state government.

What is Agneepath Scheme
The Central Government has launched the Agneepath Recruitment Scheme on June 14 to recruit a large number of youth in all the three branches of the Army – Army, Navy and Air Force.
