new Delhi: Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said on Saturday that the COVID-19 precautionary dose would be of the same vaccine, which has been used for the administration of the first and second doses.
No fresh registration will be required for the precautionary dose as all the payable beneficiaries are already registered on CoWIN.
It was emphasized that all vaccinations should be compulsorily recorded on the CoWIN platform and private COVID-19 vaccination centers (CVCs) would have both ‘online appointment’ and ‘walk-in’ registration and vaccination options available.
This came after the Union Health Secretary held a meeting of all health secretaries of all states and union territories regarding the precautionary dosage for the age group of 18-59.

The private CVCs will maintain the vaccination sites as per the guidelines issued earlier by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
They can charge up to a maximum of Rs 150 in addition to the cost of the vaccine as a service charge for vaccination.
“HCWs, FLWs and citizens of 60 years of age and above will continue to receive precautionary dose vaccination at any CVC including free vaccination at government immunization centres,” the ministry said.
In addition, a detailed orientation was done to the state officials on various new provisions made on the CoWIN platform for expansion of eligible population for precautionary doses and improvement of vaccination certificates by citizens.
“The States/UTs were advised to expedite the administration of the ongoing free COVID-19 vaccination with first dose and second dose for the population of 12+ years and for the population of 60 years in HCWs, FLWs and Govt. Administer the optimal dose as a precautionary measure. CVC,” the release said.
Dr Manohar Agnani, Additional Secretary (Health), and other senior officials of the Union Health Ministry were present in the virtual meeting with the Health Secretary and NHM Mission Directors and other officials of the States and Union Territories.
