Prayagraj-based medicos undertake kanwar yatra on their cycles | Allahabad News – Times of India

The medicos of the Sangam city left for Varanasi in the wee hours of Saturday.

PRAYAGRAJ: In the present holy month of Shravan, when kanwar yatra is hogging the limelight and individuals can be spotted traveling on foot, buses and lorries, a group of around 20 eminent doctors from Prayagraj too undertook the holy voyage, not on foot but on their cycles.
The medicos of the Sangam city left for Varanasi in the wee hours of Saturday and reached Varanasi in the evening of the same day. They returned to Prayagraj on Sunday.
Remarkably, all the doctors were over 40 years old and some like Dr J V Rai and Dr Anil Shukla are in their mid-60’s. But despite their age, they not only inspired the group but led the same from the front.
“We started from Bhardwaj Ashram at around 4.30am on Saturday and after taking Ganga water we reached Varanasi around 3:30 pm on the same day. The group took a brief stop at Gopiganj and had tea and juice (the group avoided any solid food) and proceeded further”, informed renowned Oncologist of the city, Dr Sapan Srivastava while talking to TOI.
While cycling on the highway and chanting the slogan of ‘har har mahadev’ the group gave a distinct and impressive image of following the faith with their hobby.
It was the second time that the group has undertaken a religious journey. “We have previously visited Chitrakoot, Ayodhya, Sitamarhi and this was our second trip to Varanasi as Kanwariya, ” added Dr Srivastava.
“To keep ourselves fit, the group undertakes long distance cycling at least twice a week wherein they cover a distance of around 60 kilometers”, said the surgeon.
The ‘kanwariya on cycle’ from Sangam city included Paediatric Dr JV Rai, Dr Anil Shukla and Dr Yugantar Pandey, Tb and Chest specialist Dr Ashutosh, Ophthalmologist, Dr B K Singh and Dr Atul Dubey (mentor of the group), Ent specialist Dr Sunil, Dr Subhash Verma, Radiologist Dr Pankaj Kamra, Neurosurgeon Dr Pankaj Gupta, Physician Dr Subodh Jain, Psychologist Dr Anurag Verma and Anaesthatic Dr Rajiv Gautam. Besides, Advocate Mayank Awasthi, Businessman Raj Kumar Verma and moderator Ashish too undertook the holy journey.
