Prakash Raj speaks Telugu better than most Telugu actors: YSR Congress MP

The Telugu film industry has split into two factions following the bitter Movie Artists Association (MAA) elections, in which Vishnu Manchu was elected as the president of the regional film association. His rival Prakash Raj tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the MAA, citing the dominance of “regionalism and nationalism” during the election campaign. There was also a clear division during the elections, with some supporting Vishnu, while others supporting Prakash.

Prakash has now got support from political circles as well. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, Lok Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh and leader of the ruling YSR Congress, said that Prakash Raj speaks better Telugu than most Telugu actors. Prakash was termed an outsider by the Vishnu camp during the MAA elections. The actor, who also failed the Lok Sabha elections, is from Bengaluru in Karnataka.

The YSR Congress also supported Prakash on the issue of voting rights in the MAA. Prakash said the Vishnu camp wants only people of Telugu origin to contest the elections and even promised to bring in a law to implement the changes. Prakash, however, pointed out that his opponents were fine with non-Telugu people voting in the MAA elections, but it is not the case when a non-Telugu person contests elections.

Prakash Raj on Monday resigned from the membership of the MAA, a day after Vishnu was elected president. “Hi my dear MAA members who stood by us.. There is a deep meaning behind my resignation to MAA. We know as a team that we are responsible for the love and support that you all have given us. We will never let you all down..explain very soon. You will be proud of us,” he tweeted.

Prakash also rubbished media reports that claimed he would set up his own association of Telugu film artists. Although he and 10 elected members of his camp resigned, he would seek progress reports from Vishnu Manchu every month. .
