Ranchi: A fact-finding team of People Union for Civil Liberties ,PUCL) Jharkhand has claimed that police and forest officials could have prevented the mob-lynching of Sanju Pradhan in Simedega district had they acted diligently. Pradhan was beaten and then set afire by locals at Besrajara village on January 5 over cutting down of trees.
The PUCL said that the village body had to of forest officials about the felling trees but the latter took no action. It stated that even though the police were present on the spot when people were thrashing Pradhan, they made little effort to save him.
The organization had demanded that FIR must be registered against the responsible police officers adding that the government should provide compensation and a job to the family. The organization has also demanded a separate inquiry by the state human rights commission in this regard.
Among the other demands of the organsiation are training the police and forest officials about local customs.
