Located in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu, Prologe Spirulina Supply Pvt. Ltd. is soon going to hit the market with its Spirulina Protein Bar and Sweet Spirulina Powder.

“We are exporting our Sun Dried Organic Spirulina to Europe. Post COVID-19 there has been an increased awareness and demand for nutritional supplements. In India, we want to enter the consumer market with the launch of Protein Bar and Sweetened Spirulina Powder. are,” S. Founder CEO of Akas Prologe told IANS.

According to Akas, a graduate in aeronautical engineering, both the products will be launched on August 15 and talks are on with Jim to stock the products.

The products developed by Prologe will be contract manufactured by Delhi-based Swastham.

However, the immunity booster product segment including the older Chyawanprash is wide and the new players will have to find a positioning niche.

Akas said, “We are also in talks with nutritionists about our product and its health benefits. We will first launch the products in four metro cities and expand to other markets and also have our own e-commerce site “

“Globally around 8,000, 10,000 TPA of spirulina is manufactured. In India we are the largest player with around 700-800 TPA production. We produce organic premium spirulina,” Srikanth said.

According to him, the Parry Nutraceuticals-division of EID Parry has around 30 per cent market share in the global premium organic spirulina market.

Tamil Nadu is one of the leading producers and exporters of Spirulina, with players like EID Parry, Sanat Products Parts of Schwabe Group, Prologe Spirulina and others.

There are many small players whose products go into other sectors like fish/poultry feed and others.

Srikanth said, “The high end product will be around 2,000 tpa, out of which we will have around 30 per cent market share. We are the largest player in India with around 700-800 tpa production. We produce organic premium spirulina.”

According to Akas, Prologe’s Sundried Organic Spirulina fetches around Rs 1,300-1,500 per kg in the overseas market.
