Popular South actress Uma Mahesari, best remembered for her role as Vijayalakshmi Akka Viji in the famous Tamil television serial Metty Oli, passed away on Sunday. She was 40 years old. The actress is survived by her husband Murugan, who is a veterinarian.

Uma Maheshwari played the role of protagonist Gopi’s wife in Metti Oli. The Tamil television serial was broadcast on Sun TV between 2002 and 2005. Some media reports suggest that the serial ran for more than 800 episodes. The title track of the serial Ammi Ammi Ammi Mithithu was very popular and the show was re-telecasted during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown due to its popularity.

Produced by Thirumurugan, the show also starred Chetan, Raj Kanth, Delhi Kumar, Revathi Priya, Kaveri, Vanaja, J Venkateshan.

According to reports, Uma Maheshwari was battling a long illness for the last few months.

According to some media reports, Maheshwari fainted after vomiting on Sunday. The family took him to the hospital for treatment but doctors declared him brought dead.

The news of Uma Maheshwari’s death was shared by her Metti Oli co-star Gayatri Shastri on social media. Sharing the news on Instagram, Gayatri Shahtri wrote, “With a very heavy heart I want to inform you that Uma Maheshwari has left us to mourn and has gone to her heavenly abode. I pray that he finds peace there. Miss you my dear… Om Shanti.”

Uma Maheshwari also acted in popular serials like Oru Kadhai Kadhai and Manjal Majimai.

Maheshwari also acted in many films. He was praised for his performances in the Malayalam films Vetri Kodi Kattu (2000), E Bhargavi Nilayam, Unnai Ninaithu’ (2002), and Alli Arjun (2002). If reports are to be believed, after marriage, he had distanced himself from acting.
