Poonam Pandey said that people have still not understood that her fake death campaign was for a cause.

Poonam Pandey faked her death earlier this year in February. Poonam Pandey’s ‘death’ news was first announced in a post shared on her official Instagram handle. She later clarified she was alive and did this stunt to create awareness about cervical cancer. This led to shockwaves across the country and Poonam was trolled immensely for toying with people’s feelings. She has now reacted to the stunt’s aftermath.

“I did it for a cause. Logon ko abhi tak akal nahi aayi hai. Aur unko yeh bhi samajh nahi aa raha ki aaj ki tareekh main, gaon khede main jo aurte hain na, unko cervical cancer ke baare main pata chal gaya hai. Toh my work is done but it was terrible for me. It was a disaster for me. I was like yaar koi toh samjho, but I don’t know how I have passed that phase,” Poonam told Instant Bollywood.

Poonam’s sudden ‘demise’ had also left the nation confused and many had already argued that it was nothing but a publicity stunt. Several people took to social media on Friday to post that the actress didn’t “look sick” and that sudden deaths are uncommon for cervical cancer patients. Following the news, several celebrities including Kangana Ranaut and Anupam Kher took to their respective X handle to pay their tributes to the actress.

A day after faking her death, the Lock Upp fame finally came out in a video statement and clarified that she was not dead. In the video, Poonam argued that the motive for her death news was to create awareness regarding cervical cancer.

“I am alive. I did not die because of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer. It is not because they couldn’t do anything about it but because they had no idea what to do about it. I am here to tell you that, unlike other cancers, cervical cancer is preventable. All you have to do is, you have to get your tests done and you have to get HPV vaccine,” she had said.

Poonam Pandey was then subjected to immense trolling for playing with people’s emotions for a publicity campaign.
