The teaser of Ponniyin Selvan: I has been released during a big launch event in Chennai. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam. With this film, Ratnam returned to the director’s chair after Chekka Chivanta Vanam (2018), which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Aravind Swamy. Ponniyin Selvan is a historical drama based on the classic Tamil novel of the same name by noted author Kalki. It will release in two parts. The first installment will arrive on September 30 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Ponniyin Selvan Teaser: I look gorgeous and promising. The scale is huge and since it is one of the most expensive film in Indian cinema, all eyes will be on its release later this year. There are wide shots of battle scenes and ships sailing on the water, all complemented by a thumping background score by AR Rahman. The cinematography looks gorgeous and the visuals are exceptional.

Story of Ponniyin Selvan: I

The film chronicles the early days of Arulmozhivarman, one of the most powerful kings of the South, who became Rajaraja Chola I, the great Chola emperor. Ponniyin Selvan has also roped in Ratnam as a co-writer on the screenplay with Elango. Kumarvel, while B Jayamohan has been credited as the dialogue writer. The film’s music has been composed by Ratnam’s frequent collaborator AR Rahman. Cinematographer Ravi Varman, who worked with the filmmaker in his 2017 Tamil film Kaatru Veliyadai, has shot for the upcoming project.

Ponniyin Selvan: I have a stellar star cast boasting of all the leading names in Indian cinema. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lakshmi among others are involved in recreating the historical story. Ponniyin Selvan reunited Aishwarya with Ratnam in 1997 after his acting debut in Iruvar (Tamil), Guru (2007), and Raavan (2010).
