Movie buffs are witnessing the biggest box office clash in the history of Tamil cinema. Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu and Thalapathy Vijay’s Vaarisu hit the theaters across Tamil Nadu on 11 January. Ardent fans of both the stars are all excited to know which film beats the other at the ticket booth.
As of now, there is no clarity on the opening-day collections of both the films. Warisu and Thunivu were welcomed with grand gestures by the fans. This is not the first time Vijay and Ajith’s films have clashed at the box office. But the debate on who is the bigger star between the two has only increased the clash at the box office.
Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu is the story of a criminal mastermind who robs banks across Chennai with an unnamed team. However, no one knows his real motive. The action thriller also stars Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken, Veera, Bhagavathy Perumal, Mamathi Chari, Chirag Jani, Prem Kumar, Mahanadi Shankar and GP Muthu in the cast.

Ahead of Thunivu’s release, the city of Bengaluru gave a grand welcome to the Tamil film. Along with decorating the city with Thunivu posters, Ajith Kumar’s fans also reportedly made a garland worth Rs 7 lakh. The video was shared on Twitter just a day before the grand premiere of Thunivu. The tweet read, “Thunivu… Ring garland worth Rs 7 lakh 35 thousand from my team Bangalore City Kingmakers for the ceremony tomorrow.”
On the other hand, we have Vamshi Paidipally’s Warisu starring Thalapathy Vijay. Giving tough competition to Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu, the family actor also opened to packed theatres. The plot of the film focuses on a man whose life is turned upside down after the mysterious death of his billionaire foster father.

Besides Vijay, Varisu stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. The star cast of the film also includes Jayasudha, Shaam, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Ganesh Venkatraman, Khushbu, Yogi Babu, Samyuktha Shanmughanathan and SJ Suryah.
