About 6 months before the assembly elections, Charanjit Singh Channi became the new Chief Minister of the state after making a big change in the Punjab Congress. He took oath as CM on Monday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh. While OP Soni and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa have been given the chair of Deputy CM. The swearing-in was scheduled to be at 11 am, but there was a slight delay in Rahul Gandhi’s arrival and the oath was taken at around 11.30 am. On this occasion, Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is considered to be the chief strategist in removing Punjab Congress President and former CM Captain Amarinder Singh from the chair, came on stage and congratulated the new Chief Minister with a bouquet. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat also came on stage and congratulated the new leadership.
