Lucknow: Former Samajwadi Party’s Balrampur MP Rizwan Zaheer was arrested by the local police on Monday for the murder of Firoz Pappu, former president of Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat. Firoz Pappu was murdered outside his house on 5 January.
Police said that Rizwan Zaheer already has 14 criminal cases to his name, in which one case invokes the National Security Act (NSA).
The Balrampur police have also arrested the former MP’s daughter Jeba, her sons-in-law Rameez, Merajul, Shakeel and Mahfuzfar for their involvement in the murder of Firoz Pappu.
Balrampur Superintendent of Police Hemant Kutiyal said that Rizwan Zaheer was planning to field his daughter Jeba on a Samajwadi Party ticket in the upcoming elections, but Firoz Pappu was also eyeing the same ticket.
“Rizwan Zaheer came to know through his sources in the party that Firoz Pappu is likely to get ticket as he had more presence in this area at present and his wife Kahkasha was the current Nagar Panchayat President. Hence, Rizwan Zaheer replaced Firoz. Gave it,” said Kutiyal.
