Police will install CCTV in all public buildings. Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner Pradeep Kumar has directed assistant commissioners and police inspectors to sensitize commercial building owners about the need to install CCTV cameras in their premises as a crime prevention measure.
“The state government has issued an order making it mandatory to install CCTV cameras in public and private buildings. I have asked the police officers to collect the details of the buildings in their police station area, sensitize the owners and take necessary steps to install CCTV cameras in their premises. There should also be cameras in front of the road,” said the city’s top cop.
The Municipal Commissioner of Police had sent a memorandum to all the ACPs and Inspectors of Police (Law and Order) in this regard on December 4 and directed them to send the progress report in Pacific format to the City Crime Records Bureau on every Tuesday.
“The authorities should update us about the number of public buildings with functional CCTV cameras, weekly progress on installation of CCTV cameras and the number of buildings to be covered so far. We will review it every week,” Pradeep Kumar said.
Referring to the order of the government, he said that CCTV cameras should be installed in all public buildings, commercial establishments and places where large gatherings take place as a condition of issuing license under relevant provisions of Municipal Corporation/Municipal Rules.
Public building means any building to which the public has access for any purpose and is used as a school, college, university or other similar educational institution, hostel, hospital, Nursing home, dispensary, clinic and maternity center etc.
