Police verification of agents, vehicles mandatory before late night delivery in Noida. Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: Home deliveries stopped after 10 pm by the Noida Police a week ago may resume, but only after police verification, not only of the delivery agents but also the vehicles used by them.
In a meeting with owners of restaurants and food businesses on Wednesday, police said the verification process would start with delivery agents associated with food aggregators like Zomato and Swiggy and then cover those associated with Amazon, Flipkart and e-commerce companies . other.
The meeting with Police Commissioner Alok Singh was sought by food businesses who were unhappy with the police’s move following the murder of a Cloud Kitchen owner during a late night brawl at Mitra Enclave in Greater Noida on September 1 .
Food outlet owners saw the restrictions imposed for the duration of the night curfew as a major setback for their business. The sudden action has left many people looking forward to dinner or other meals on the basis of takeaway orders, because they don’t have or have time to cook.
Delivery in Noida has stopped at 10 pm in the last one week. The night curfew has now been relaxed by the state government from one hour to 11 pm. But it is not clear whether the delivery will be allowed without verification till 11 pm.
The businessmen present in the meeting demanded that home delivery be allowed to continue as before, but the commissioner said that this can happen only after the verification process starts.
The police is planning to set up a help desk for verification. Currently, according to the restaurant, delivery agents are only verified by third parties. Police feel the current system is not adequate and needs a “rigorous and more credible” police verification to ensure that no one with a criminal background is involved in delivering food and other items. The verification of vehicles is to check whether they were associated with any criminal incident in the past.
Apart from food businessmen, representatives of Swiggy and Zomato also attended the meeting. Varun kheda, Noida Chapter President National Restaurant Association of India One who attended the meeting told TOI, “The police are of the view that the delivery officers need proper police verification. We informed the commissioner that the verification is actually done by the third party through the court. Swiggy and Zomato representatives said that there are 5,000 to 7,000 delivery officers working in the district. The Commissioner of Police said that they cannot be allowed to go at night without proper verification. We requested that a help desk be set up to expedite the process.
This means that late night food deliveries are likely to be affected in the near future as the verification will not happen overnight and a limited number of agents are expected to be available to take orders once the process starts.
The help desk is likely to function from the Surajpur office of the Commissionerate under Additional DCP (Crime) Elmaran Ji. “We informed the police that since most of the delivery agents are from other states and districts, the process will take time,” Khera said.
Elmaaran G said the plan is to start verification with delivery agents who are from Gautam Budh Nagar and then cover all agents associated with Swiggy and Zomato. “After covering food delivery platforms, the model can be replicated for executives working for other platforms,” he said.
“Representatives from Swiggy and Zomato pointed out that labor laws do not apply to delivery executives, and hence, the platform was not directly involved in their verification process,” he said.
“Currently, they only do a third-party verification that the agent relies on.” Elmaran ji said that verification would be similar to House Helpers and Rs 50 will be charged for each verification. Swiggy and Zomato did not respond to requests for comment.
