Police Center incomplete for access to CCTV despite 4 years delay Nagpur News – Times of India

NAGPUR: The Rs 520-crore-secured and smart city project, believed to have been completed four years ago, is stuck. One of the important components of the project- the Command and Control Center (CCC) built for police and traffic police was to be commissioned four years ago.
A visit to the CCC built in the Police Control Room premises revealed that the modern systems were lying closed for the past one year.
On September 27, 2016, Maha IT signed a contract with L&T Ltd for execution of the project within one year, followed by operation and maintenance (O&M) for five years. The O&M period was started from February 2019. But the project is incomplete for pending works of CCC.
Under the project, 3,700 CCTVs were installed across the city and connected by optical fiber cables. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has to access the feed from CCTV in the City Operation Center (COC) on the top floor of its Head Office. Police to monitor law and order and traffic police to control traffic should have used CCTV surveillance from CCC.
The COC was completed within two years and is in operation. But CCC is not activated yet.
The initial cost of CCC was Rs 1.8 crore. The cost was increased to Rs 10.42 crore, which was also approved. Again, the cost was increased by Rs 7 crore.
Bhuvaneshwari S, CEO, Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL), the special purpose vehicle of the smart city, said, “Rs 10 crore was approved and spent on CCC. To accomplish this, an additional fund of Rs 7 crore is required. The NSSCDCL Board has approved the additional requirement and submitted the same to Maha IT for requisition of funds. NSSCDCL has completed all the procedures.
CP Amitesh Kumar said the delay was due to issues with the vendor-L&T Ltd. “It was supposed to be operational a few years back. Due to delay we are dealing with COC of NMC on temporary basis. We are trying to see it completed as soon as possible.”
Due to the delay of CCC, the police and traffic police teams are also forced to come and work on the COC of NMC in limited numbers.
With the new structure of G+2 floor, all kinds of heavy machinery for storage, operation, cables, video wall with 32 screens were installed and abandoned in CCC a year ago. The entire project is also lying incomplete due to pendency of CCC.
A L&T Construction spokesperson said, “We would like to refrain from commenting on the issue as it is sub-judice.
