Poet Ranjit Hoskote To Receive 7th Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Poetry Award 2022

Every year, the Jaipur Literature Festival celebrates poetry as one of the most influential and influential art forms of literature. The rich program recognizes the best amongst the young and talented poets of India by announcing the Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Award for Poetry.

In association with Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Foundation, this award is a tribute to Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia and his massive performances. The prestigious award will be presented at the 15th edition of the prestigious Jaipur Literature Festival, which will be held at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur. In addition, a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, the winner gets a memento of appreciation along with an honor at the festival.

Following the unanimous decision of the jury committee, Ranjit Hoskote is the winner of the 7th Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Poetry Award 2022 this year. His poetic tradition extends from the pioneers of modern poetry in English to India such as Nissim Ezekiel, Dom Moraes, Arun Kolatkar and others, and still continues through finely crafted, well-crafted word-craft and skillful employment of images and metaphors. It creates a unique identity of its own. , His poetry is noted for the fusion of form and content, sometimes the content determines the form.

He has received Sahitya Akademi Swarna Jayanti Award, Sahitya Akademi Translation Award and SH Raza Sahitya Puraskar. His poems have been translated into German, Hindi, Swedish, Spanish and Arabic.

Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia was an internationally acclaimed poet, freedom fighter, social reformer, philanthropist and environmentalist who received the Padma Shri award in 2004 and the Rajasthan Ratna in 2012. Sethia ji wrote 42 books in Hindi, Urdu and Rajasthani, which have been translated. In English, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada and German. He was chosen as a ‘living legend of the 20th century’ at the bicentenary celebrations of the US Library of Congress in Washington. She was also awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for her work and the Jnanpith Moortidevi Award in 1986.

The Mahakavi Kanhaiyalal Sethia Award is given after a careful selection process by an eminent jury that includes renowned litterateurs and discerning connoisseurs like Namita Gokhale, Sanjay K Roy, Jayaprakash Sethia, Nirupama Dutt and Siddharth Sethia of the KL Sethia Foundation.
