PM to dedicate International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre complex to nation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Center (IECC) complex at Pragati Maidan on July 26.

PM Modi’s vision of world-class infrastructure to host meetings, conferences and exhibitions in the country has given birth to the concept of International Exhibition-cum-Convention Center (IECC) at Pragati Maidan.

According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, this project of revamping the old and obsolete facilities at Pragati Maidan was developed as a national project at a cost of about Rs 2700 crore.

“With a campus area of ​​approximately 123 acres, the IECC Complex is developed as India’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destination. In terms of covered space available for events, the IECC Complex finds its place among the top exhibition and convention complexes in the world,” it said.

It added, “The newly developed IECC Complex at Pragati Maidan comprises of several state-of-the-art facilities including Convention Centre, Exhibition Hall, Amphitheatre, etc.”

Giving details about the convention center it claimed, “The convention center has been developed as the centerpiece of the Pragati Maidan complex. It is a grand architectural marvel, designed to host large scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conferences, conventions and other prestigious events.

“It is equipped with multiple meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, amphitheater and business centre, which enables it to host a wide variety of events. Its grand multi-purpose hall and plenary hall have a combined capacity of seven thousand people, more than the seating capacity of Australia’s famous Sydney Opera House. Its magnificent amphitheater is equipped with a seating capacity of 3,000 persons,” the statement underlined.

“The shape of the building is derived from the conch shell (conch shell), the various walls and façade of the Convention Center depict several elements of India’s traditional art and culture, including ‘Surya Shakti’, highlighting India’s efforts in harnessing solar energy, ‘Zero to ISRO’, celebrating our achievements in space, Panch Mahabhutas depicting the building blocks of the universal foundation – Akash (Sky), Vayu (Air), Agni (Fire), Jal (Water), Prithvi (Earth), others. Besides this, various paintings and tribal art forms from different regions of the country adorn the convention centre,” the statement further said.
