Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government for withdrawing the ‘Z’ category for several political leaders. Further, he said that as far as contesting the UP elections is concerned, it is up to the SP to decide its constituency.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced the dates for assembly elections in five states- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur. The first date of issuance of notification in Uttar Pradesh will start from January 14. The date for the first phase of polling in the state is February 10.
Training his guns at the Centre, Yadav asked in the ‘News 18 Agenda UP’ event, “The prime minister’s security is security, but he took away the security of many others. Why? Is his security not important?”
At the event, Yadav deliberated on a range of matters including the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and farmers’ protests, while revealing that it is up to the Samajwadi Party to decide from where it will contest the state elections.
