A state BJP leader said on Wednesday that he would also address a rally of over one lakh elected representatives of panchayat bodies as part of his two-day visit to Gujarat on March 11 and 12.

Modi’s visit to his home state will come a day after the results of assembly elections in five states were announced. Gujarat goes to polls later this year.

He said that during his two-day visit, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Khel Mahakumbh sports event at a stadium in Ahmedabad and address the first convocation of the National Defense University at Lavad in Gandhinagar district as the chief guest.

Gujarat BJP President C.R. Patil told reporters.

He said that various NGOs, organisations, BJP workers and well-wishers of Modi would be present at their pre-determined places during the roadshow.

He said that in Kamalam, Modi will talk to BJP MPs, MLAs, office bearers and state executive members.

In the evening, Modi will address the Mahapanchayat Sammelan – ‘Maru Gam, Maru Gujarat’ at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad. Patil said over 1.38 lakh elected representatives including members of taluka and district panchayats and municipal councilors and corporators will participate in it.

On Saturday morning, Modi will attend the convocation ceremony of the National Defense University as the chief guest. An official said he will deliver the convocation address and share the stage with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will deliver the President’s speech.

After that, Modi will inaugurate the ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ event in the evening, Patil said, adding, “More than 47 lakh people have registered for the Khel Mahakumbh event.

Various sports will be organized at more than 500 venues across the state.

According to the Gujarat government’s circular, the Khel Mahakumbh has been declared an “iconic event” under the Centre’s ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Various sports events will be organized to encourage school and college going students.

Competitions are organized at school, taluka, district, municipal corporation, zone and state level.

During the Khel Mahakumbh, sporting events will be organized in five different age categories – under 11, under 14, under 17, for the open age group and for those aged 40 and above 60. Athletics, swimming, judo, wrestling, archery, fencing, boxing, shooting, taekwondo, gymnastics, rugby and horse riding are among the categories of participants for different age groups. People of 40 and above 60 will participate in Yogasan programs.

“Around 1,100 artistes will perform live at the stadium in Ahmedabad, where the event will be held on Saturday evening,” Patil said.
