PM Modi to visit Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi to inaugurate hydroelectric projects worth Rs 11,000 crore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mandi in Himachal Pradesh on Monday (today) at around 12 noon to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for hydroelectric projects worth over Rs 11,000 crore. The PMO said that he would also preside over the second groundbreaking ceremony of the Himachal Pradesh Global Investors Meet.
Noting that Modi has consistently focused on fully utilizing the untapped potential of the available resources in the country, it said that a step in this regard is to make optimum use of hydroelectric potential in the Himalayan region.
“The projects that will be inaugurated and laid by the Prime Minister during the visit represent an important step in this direction,” it said.
Modi will lay the foundation stone of Renukaji Dam project, pending for nearly three decades. The project was made possible with Modi’s emphasis on cooperative federalism by the Center bringing together the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi to make the project possible.
The 40 MW project will be constructed at a cost of around Rs 7,000 crore. The PMO said that this will prove to be extremely beneficial for Delhi, which will be able to get about 500 million cubic meters of water supply per year.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Luhri Phase 1 Hydroelectric Project. The 210 MW project will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 1,800 crore. This will lead to the generation of more than 750 million units of electricity per year. Modern and reliable grid support will also prove beneficial for the states around the region.
Another project for which he will lay the foundation stone is the Dhaulasiddha Hydroelectric Project. This will be the first hydroelectric project of Hamirpur district. The 66 MW project will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 680 crore. The PMO said that this would generate more than 300 million units of electricity per year.
Modi will inaugurate Savra-Kuddu Hydroelectric Project The 111 MW project has been built at a cost of about Rs 2,080 crore. This will generate more than 380 million units of electricity per year, and help the state generate revenue of over Rs 120 crore annually.
The Himachal Pradesh Global Investors Meet is expected to boost investment in the region through the launch of projects worth about Rs 28,000 crore.
