PM Modi To Inaugurate Projects Worth Rs 14,300 Cr In Assam Today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on Friday to lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 14,300 crore and dedicate them to the nation. At around 12 noon, the Prime Minister will reach AIIMS Guwahati and inspect its newly constructed campus. Later in a public function, he will dedicate AIIMS Guwahati and three other medical colleges to the nation. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute (AAHII) and launch the ‘Aapke Dwar Ayushman’ campaign by distributing Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards to eligible beneficiaries. At around 2:15 pm, Prime Minister will participate in the program of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Gauhati High Court at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

At 5 pm, the Prime Minister will reach the Surasajai Stadium in Guwahati to preside over a public function where he will witness a colorful Bihu program performed by over 10,000 Bihu dancers.

During the event, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and dedicate to the nation various development projects, including setting up of a 500 TPD menthol plant at Namrup; Laying of foundation stone of bridge over river Brahmaputra connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi; Foundation stone laid for beautification of Rang Ghar, Sivasagar; and dedication of five rail projects to the nation.

Rongali Bihu will be celebrated in Assam on Friday. Rongali or Bohag Bihu celebrated in the first week of the month of Bohag (mid-April) every year marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year and is widely celebrated among the community.

The Assamese celebrate Bihu three times a year, marking specific cycles of cultivation – Bhogali or Magha Bihu in January, Bohag or Rongali Bihu in April, and Kongali Bihu in October.
