Prime Minister Narendra Modi According to reports on Saturday, the chief ministers of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura will attend the swearing-in ceremony.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the swearing-in ceremony in Tripura would be held on March 8, while in Meghalaya and Nagaland it would be held on March 7.

Senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, may accompany the Prime Minister to the swearing-in ceremony in the northeastern states.

In the recently concluded assembly elections, the BJP retained power in Tripura on its own with the help of ally NDPP in Nagaland and in Meghalaya after the failure of the Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) to form the government. is ready. Despite emerging as the single largest party in the state, it won a majority.

Nagaland

Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the NDPP-BJP government in Nagaland on March 7.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP joined forces with a 40:20 seat-sharing formula ahead of the February 27 elections to the 60-member state assembly. They won 25 and 12 constituencies respectively, securing their second consecutive term in power.

While no one from the coalition has formally announced their intention to form a new government, the BJP has previously said that NDPP chief Neiphiu Rio will continue as chief minister.

Meghalaya

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya and NPP leader Preston Tynsong said that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place on March 7 and will be attended by Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 7.

The NPP emerged as the single largest party in Meghalaya, winning 26 of the 59 seats that went to polls on February 27, but failed to touch the majority mark of 31 seats during the counting of votes on Thursday. Amid speculation of a hung assembly situation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the pact with the NPP via Twitter after holding talks with Sangma for an alliance in Meghalaya.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday staked claim to form a government led by the National People’s Party (NPP) and announced that sectors like youth, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure and health would be given special attention. He also said that some of the former comrades would be in the new government.

Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mowry told PTI that the NPP has the support of HSPDP, PDF and two independent MLAs besides the saffron party and has a total of 34 MLAs in the alliance.

Tripura

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP-IPFT government in Tripura on March 8, a senior police officer confirmed to PTI.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held at Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala.

The official said that Assam Chief Minister Sarma, who is the president of NEDA, is likely to visit today. “Senior party leaders and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states will also be invited to the swearing-in ceremony of the new government,” BJP state vice-president Rebati Tripura said on Saturday.

BJP’s state in-charge Mahesh Sarma and election in-charge Mahendra Singh are also in the northeastern state.

PM Modi’s victory speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hit out at his rivals, saying they were wishing for ‘Mar Ja Modi’, but soon after the counting of votes was over, people were raising slogans of ‘Mat Ja Modi’.

“It is time for a new history and a new era as peace, prosperity, stability and development flourish in the Northeast. When I visited the region recently, I was told that I have visited the Northeast 50 times. I went there again and again and won his heart. And, it is a big victory for me,” PM Modi said at an event at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

Taking a jibe at the party’s rivals, Modi credited the BJP’s winning streak in state elections to the ‘triveni’ of work and work culture of the governments run by the party and the commitment of its workers to serve the people.
