PM Modi talks to men’s hockey team, congratulates them for their historic bronze medal in Tokyo 2020

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Spoke to men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh, head coach Graham Reid and assistant coach Piyush Dubey as India beat Germany 5-4 to clinch the bronze medal, winning its first medal at the Olympics after a gap of 41. years.

The PM told Manpreet Singh that he had created history and remarked that Manpreet’s voice is loud and clear after the victory, while there was little silence that day (when India lost to Belgium).

The Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik also spoke to the Indian Men’s Hockey Team over the telephone and congratulated them for their resounding victory.

India came back from a two-goal loss to register a resounding 5-4 win, reminding their fans of the glorious days when Indians were a force in world hockey.

Simranjit Singh scored two goals for India, while Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinderpal Singh and Hardik Singh scored one goal each, while Oruz, Furak, Nicolas Whelan and Windfeder scored one goal each for Germany.

President Ram Nath Kovind also congratulated the Indian men’s hockey team for winning an Olympic medal and said that this historic win would usher in a new era in hockey.
