Rainfall in India: According to a statement issued by the PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (July 10) spoke to senior ministers and officials and took stock of the situation in the wake of excessive rains in several parts of India. Heavy rains have been lashing several parts of north India for the last three days, leading to landslides, devastation and flood-like situation, killing at least 19 people in the national capital.

The Yamuna in Delhi crossed the warning mark of 204.5 meters as Haryana released more water from the Hathinikund barrage into the river amid incessant rains in the upper catchment areas. According to the flood bulletin, the water level on the old railway bridge rose to 204.63 meters at 1 pm on Monday. The water level is expected to cross the danger mark of 205.33 meters and rise to 205.5 meters between 10 am and 12 noon on Tuesday.

Rahul Gandhi on the current situation

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said he was saddened by the loss of lives due to heavy rains and landslides in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and other north Indian states and urged all party workers to help with relief measures. Kharge seeks PM CARES relief from the Center

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday asked the Center to provide additional relief from the PM-CARES Fund for states affected by the torrential rains that lashed several parts of north India, including Himachal Pradesh. “The death of many people in North India due to heavy rains is sad and painful.

Delhi witnessed the highest rainfall (153 mm) in a single day in July since 1982 in a 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday. The city received an additional 107 mm of rain in the next 24 hours, further worsening the situation. Heavy rains turned roads into raging streams, parks into water mazes and markets into waterlogged areas.
