PM Modi Holds Meeting With Assam Council of Ministers

The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Agartala from Guwahati on Wednesday morning to attend the swearing-in of the Manik Saha-led BJP government in Tripura.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Officials said a closed-door meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Council of Ministers was held at a guest house here on Tuesday.

However, there was no media briefing on what transpired in the meeting.

Later, Sarma tweeted, “It is a rare privilege for my cabinet colleagues to have had the opportunity to receive the blessings and guidance of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji in Guwahati today.” According to officials, the meeting held at the Koinadhora State Guest House here lasted for about two hours.

Health Minister Keshab Mahant had said on Monday that the working of all departments is expected to be discussed, but did not give any specific details.

The Prime Minister is on a two-day tour of the Northeast to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new governments in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.

Modi arrived here in the morning and left for Shillong in a helicopter to witness the swearing-in of the Conrad Sangma-led government.

He then attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Council of Ministers headed by Neiphiu Rio in Kohima.

The Prime Minister returned to Guwahati in the evening and was received at the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Sarma.

“Received him at Guwahati airport along with Hon’ble Governor Shri @Gulab_Kataria ji. Looking forward to a day full of learning, blessings and joy in the presence of Hon’ble PM,” Sarma tweeted.

As the PM stepped out of the airport, a large number of people greeted him by showering flowers on his motorcade, with members of various communities performing songs and dances on the occasion of Holi.

“It’s the color of joy, affection and appreciation for Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on the eve of Holi in Guwahati,” the chief minister tweeted.

Modi was seen greeting the artists by shaking their hands.

He shared pictures from his visit to the state on Twitter and wrote that he was “overwhelmed by the love and affection he has received in Guwahati”.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sarma had claimed that the politics of development led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become dominant over vote bank politics.

He had said, “People of the Northeast have never seen such love and care from the Centre. We feel really blessed.”
