Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that the state had only experienced “neglect and discrimination” at the hands of the Center and that bringing Vande Bharat train would not hide these things

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hit back at the Prime Minister on Sunday Narendra Modi for his remarks against the state government on several issues, saying that he was “deliberately trying to belittle the state”.

The chief minister claimed that the state had only experienced “neglect and discrimination” at the hands of the Center and that bringing Vande Bharat train would not hide these things.

Vijayan said the Prime Minister made several statements during his recent political event – Yuvam 2023 in the port city of Kochi, including the alleged huge unemployment in the state, which were “baseless and devoid of facts”.

He claimed, “The prime minister deliberately tried to put Kerala down.”

Speaking in Kozhikode at an event to mark the Onchiyam martyrdom, the Kerala CM gave details of the state government’s initiative to provide jobs to the youth and the appointments made through the Public Service Commission.

He also detailed several other welfare measures – such as housing under the Jeevan Mission and pension for the elderly – that the Left government in the state has undertaken and argued that it was the BJP at the Center that did not follow through on its election promises. To provide employment to the youth.

At the Yuvam 2023 Conclave, Modi accused the LDF government in the state of not taking steps to provide jobs to the youth.

Vijayan further infuriated the Modi government by accusing it of taking payment for food grains provided as relief after the 2018 floods.

“We thought that food grains are free and distributed accordingly. But the Center took the payment later.”

Vijayan said that even Kerala’s share in taxes was reduced.

He said, “This is the kind of neglect and discrimination that Kerala has experienced at the hands of the central government. Such things cannot be hidden by bringing Vande Bharat train to the state.”
