Planning to study abroad? Here’s what you need to know about Canadian visas

Indian students wishing to go to Canada for higher education require a Canadian student visa. Students also need to score good marks in IELTS. However, many students are facing issues as the Canadian authorities have been denying their visas for the past few weeks. So, here, we have listed some important things and required documents that students planning to study in Canada must know:

university acceptance

A university acceptance letter is the primary requirement for the Canadian visa process. Students wishing to apply for a Canadian visa must first shortlist at least three top Canadian universities that best suit their profile and score. Candidates can categorize universities into three categories – DREAM, REACH and SAFE to make decision making easier. Also, make sure that these universities are designated educational institutions (DLIs). Once the application is accepted, students will receive their acceptance letter.

Canadian Student Permit and Visa Requirements

Visa processing has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of travel restrictions. Students who have already obtained their Canadian student permit from the accepting university, either in general or through SDS, should begin applying for their visa as soon as possible. All foreign nationals wishing to study at DLI in Canada are required to obtain a Canadian Student Permit.

What is SDS?

Study Direct Stream (SDS) is a program launched by the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for students from India and some other countries to obtain their visas in 4-6 weeks or less, while for others It takes up to 2-3 months.
