“The residents of Sector PI 3 are facing a major problem due to non-supply of water since last few days. Today was the third day of non-supply of water in the sector. This negligence of the administration has brought people to the streets. Till yesterday, people were somehow managing by taking water from tankers.
“Many residents were unable to go to work, while domestic work largely affected all households in the sector. Everyone’s tanks are empty,” said Aditya Bhati, RWA President Sector PI 3.
Authority officials said they are sending water tankers to the area, but residents claim this was not enough for the entire area which has 1,500 plots and around 2,500 residents.
Another resident of the sector lamented that the authority is ready to levy water tax, but it is not proactive in providing services to the residents.
Kapil Dev Singh, senior manager (urban services), GNIDA, said an IGL pipeline work carried out last week had damaged the main water pipeline that fills the sector’s tank.
“An IGL pipeline was laid under the water pipeline and damaged it in the process. About 7-8 meters of water pipeline got damaged with various gaps. To do the repair work, we had to drain the remaining water from the pipeline which itself took about 8-10 hours. This led to a supply shutdown in the surrounding areas, including the Pi 7.
