Hanuma Vihari’s valiant innings went in vain as defending champions Madhya Pradesh registered a 5-wicket win. However, his determination earned him massive accolades

India batsman Hanuma Vihari drew praise from fans and fellow cricketers alike for showing his sportsmanship during the Ranji Trophy 2023 quarter-final match against Madhya Pradesh. Although his team, Andhra Pradesh, was ousted after a 5-wicket defeat, the captain was praised for his exceptional display of grit and determination.

In the first innings, Vihari fractured his left wrist while facing a short ball from Avesh Khan. He had to walk off the field after that moment but he was no. 11 in both innings and batted with one hand. In the second innings, he also hit some fours off spinner Saransh Jain. But his flamboyant innings went in vain as the defending came back to win the contest.

After the game, Vihari had a chat with the former India Talks about opener Aakash Chopra and his memorable innings. He revealed that the team physio had warned him against batting alone but he didn’t change his mind.

“When I said I wanted to bat, the physio told me 10 times that my career could be in jeopardy if I get injured again while batting. I told the physio that if I don’t play cricket after this match then there is no problem but if I give up for Andhra in this match then it will remain in my heart forever. Jio Cinema,

The out-of-favour India batsman further said that he was very disappointed to have picked up an injury in a crucial quarter-final against defending champions Madhya Pradesh in Indore.

“I was devastated because it was a quarterfinal match, such an important match for Andhra and I was not able to bat. I felt that even if I can add 10 runs for the team in the last wicket, it will be beneficial and I took that decision. The Indian batsman, who has represented the national team in 16 Tests so far, said, “If you have to do this for the team, then you get the courage.”
