Physical violence, cheating, drug abuse: allegations against Yo Yo Honey Singh by wife Shalini Talwar

Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh was booked under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act on Tuesday by his wife Shalini Talwar. Shalini filed a 120-page complaint against Honey Singh and also mentioned his parents and sister. In the complaint, she listed the events after her marriage in detail when the singer allegedly abused her physically and mentally. It also documented their relationship which began in 2001 and they were married in 2011 after 10 years of dating.

An opening excerpt of the complaint read, “Applicant (wife). The 38-year-old is filing an urgent petition against the Respondents under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDV Act 2005), seeking protection orders and other reliefs against atrocities committed by the Respondents has gone.”

The complaint further read, “The applicant has been subjected to several incidents of physical abuse, verbal, mental abuse and emotional abuse at the hands of the respondent.”

Shalini has made several allegations against Singh in the complaint. She wrote that soon after their wedding in 2011, he became “rude, cruel, aggressive, contemptuous and abusive” towards her as her career began. She said that the physical abuse began during their honeymoon in Mauritius in 2011. Traveling, he was cold towards her, and when he questioned her behavior, he said that he married her against her will. He even pushed her on the bed.

In the same visit, he accused her of leaving him alone and of being drunk. When she resisted, he allegedly pulled her hair, slapped her and asked her to shut up.

He further said that he allegedly went to extreme lengths to hide the fact that he was married. He never disclosed his marriage nor wore his wedding ring. Once upon a time, pictures from their 2011 wedding were leaked, leaving him in a panic. Singh allegedly “brutally thrashed” her alleging that she had leaked the pictures. He further asked his team to morph the pictures and said that they were from a recent shoot.

He also accused her of cheating. He said that he “repeatedly started having casual sex with several women”. She said that he cheated on her with someone she worked with in the Color Brown music video. He also found pictures of her in objectionable position with several women. She said that when she was confronted about cheating on her colleague, he allegedly threw bottles of liquor at her.

She also alleged that Singh often abused alcohol and drugs. She also accused her father-in-law of sexual harassment. He alleged that when she was changing he had gone into her room and ‘kneaded her chest.’ Shalini has said that there is a lot of evidence to show that she was a victim of prolonged physical and mental abuse.

Talwar has sought a direction from the court to ask her husband to pay Rs 10 crore as interim compensation for domestic violence.

Further, she requested the court to order the singer to pay rent of Rs 5 lakh every month for a fully furnished residence in Delhi so that he could live by himself and not depend on his widowed mother. Apart from this, he also sought to stop the singer from selling her shared house or to create interest to any third person and sell her dowry articles.
