New Delhi: Fuel sales in India rose sharply in May as people went on holiday in the hills to escape the scorching heat of the plains and economic activity expanded.
Industry data shows petrol consumption grew by about 56% and sales of diesel, the most widely used fuel, grew 39% compared to a year ago. The sale of diesel was also boosted by the demand from the agriculture sector during the harvesting season.
