On January 17, the price of petrol in Delhi was fixed at Rs 96.72 per liter and diesel at Rs 89.62 per litre.

India’s fuel prices remained unchanged on January 17 as there was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel. The prices have remained unchanged since the central government reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per liter, respectively, on May 21 last year.

Given the stability of fuel prices during the last several months, it is anticipated that the country’s Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will remain the same for some time before implementing the revision applicable to the entire country. Currently, the price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 mark in major cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

Mint reports that crude oil exports from Russia in December 2022 India reached new heights. Russia’s capital Moscow has been India’s top oil supplier for several months running. India began importing 1 million barrels per day of crude oil from Russia in December, according to data from energy cargo tracker Vortexa. In December alone, India received 1.19 million bpd of crude oil from Russia.

According to the latest update, on January 17, the price of petrol in Delhi was fixed at Rs 96.72 per liter and diesel at Rs 89.62 per litre. A liter of petrol costs Rs 106.31 and a liter of diesel costs Rs 94.27 in Mumbai, the financial hub of the country. In Chennai, one liter of petrol will cost Rs 102.63 and one liter of diesel will cost Rs 94.33. The price of diesel in Kolkata has been recorded at Rs 92.76, while the price of petrol is Rs 106.03.

Daily price changes made by public sector oil marketing firms such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited take into account foreign exchange rates and international benchmark prices.
