According to the price notification by state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs), fuel prices across the country remained stable on Friday, January 28. The current 84-day moratorium by oil marketing companies is the longest since the adoption of daily fuel price revision in 2017 and the pause can be linked to upcoming elections in states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Earlier, there was a pause of 82 days in the rate revision between March 2020 and June 2020.
According to the price notification by the state-owned fuel retailers, petrol in Delhi is being sold at Rs 95.41 per liter on Friday, while diesel is being sold at Rs 86.67 per liter in the city. It is to be noted that the current revised price is after the Delhi State Government reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol alone from 30% to 19.40% as on December 1, 2021. Prices have remained the same since then.
Meanwhile, petrol is selling at Rs 109.98 per liter in Mumbai, with diesel prices remaining unchanged at Rs 94.14 per litre.
Petrol price in Chennai is Rs 101.40 per liter while diesel is being sold at Rs 91.42 per liter in Tamil Nadu capital.
Similarly, in Kolkata, one liter of petrol is being sold at Rs. 104.67 and one liter of diesel at Rs. 89.79 respectively.
Prices of both the major fuels have remained stable as the central government collectively revised excise duty on both the major fuels on November 4 last year to relieve prices which had hit an all-time high. On November 4, the excise duty on petrol was reduced by Rs 5 per liter and on diesel by Rs 10 per liter.
Meanwhile, global benchmark crude oil prices rose on Friday, amid tight supply concerns as major producers continued their policy of controlling output growth amid rising demand for the fuel, Reuters reported.
After falling 62 cents during the previous day, Brent crude futures were up 49 cents, or 0.6%, at $89.83 a barrel by 0310 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures, which fell 74 cents on Thursday, were up 62 cents, or 0.7%, to $87.23 a barrel on Friday.
