Petrol, diesel prices announced today; Check rates in Delhi, Kolkata and other cities

Fuel prices in the country remain unchanged for a period of one month as on Wednesday, June 22. Petrol and diesel prices have remained stable since May 21 as the oil marketing companies have kept the prices stable. Last month, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter.

Petrol price in Delhi on Wednesday is Rs 96.72 per liter from Rs 105.41 per liter earlier; Whereas the retail price of diesel in Delhi is Rs 89.62 per liter as against Rs 96.67 per liter earlier. Petrol consumers in Mumbai will have to pay Rs 111.35 per liter, while diesel consumers in the financial capital will have to pay Rs 97.28 per litre. Petrol in Kolkata costs Rs 106.03 per liter, while in the capital West Bengal, diesel costs Rs 92.7 per litre. Petrol in Chennai is being sold at Rs 102.63 per liter, while in the capital Tamil Nadu, diesel is being sold at Rs 94.24 per litre.

Petrol and diesel price revision India It is managed by public sector OMCs like Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Any changes made in the prices of petrol and diesel are implemented from 6 am daily. The revision in the fuel price depends on several factors including international crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates. The price of petrol and diesel varies across states due to local factors like state tax, VAT (value added tax), freight charges, etc.

After significant reduction in excise duty by the central government to bring down fuel prices, several state governments also reduced VAT on petrol and diesel. The Maharashtra state government reduced the local VAT on petrol by Rs 2.08 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.44 per liter. The state government of Odisha also announced a rebate in local taxes on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.23 and Rs 1.36 per liter respectively. The Rajasthan government reduced VAT on petrol by Rs 2.48 per liter and on diesel by Rs 1.16 per liter. Meanwhile, the Kerala state government reduced the local tax on petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 per liter respectively.
