At the internal meeting of the Trinamool Congress party in North Kolkata on Thursday, senior MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said that this is the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee, no more Rahul GandhiAgainst whom is the face of the opposition Narendra Modi.
“We are not talking about an alliance without the Congress. I have seen Rahul Gandhi for a long time and he has not developed himself as an alternative to Modi. The whole country wants Mamta, so we will keep Mamta’s face and campaign.
At a time when unity among opposition parties is on the table, Bandyopadhyay’s remarks are being considered as a big statement by the TMC.
TMC has great respect for Congress President Sonia Gandhi, but when it comes to Rahul the party leaders have always expressed their objection.
The party wants Mamata to be the face of the opposition and this demand has been made time and again by the leaders of its party. However, Mamata has so far conceded that unity matters more to her opposition than her designation.
A quick analysis of Mamata’s Delhi visit shows that it was full of opposition unity. Although TMC participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Breakfast Unity Meet when Parliament session started, TMC suggested that they are more interested in opposition unity programs and do not agree to everything organized by Rahul Gandhi.
After its victory in the Bengal assembly elections this year, the TMC has insisted that the Congress is the co-warrior, not the owner, in the big battle of 2024. Bandyopadhyay had also emphasized this sentiment.
Speaking to News18, Congress MP Pradeep Bhattacharya said, “It is too early to predict what will happen in 2024.”
Relations between the Congress and TMC have been cordial so far and political experts believe that by 2024, they may go through several ups and downs.
